Beloved before behaved
I grew up feeling that love had to be earned. In our family, we've tried to separate love from performance. Behavior still matters, but it may not tell us the whole story. We can address what happened and stay close enough to listen.

"What will this child believe about himself?"
Aimee and I were unmarried, expecting Jaden, and in Bible college. We were scared. Beneath all the practical questions was one that wouldn't leave us alone: might our child one day believe he was a mistake? “What will this child believe about himself?” became part of how we learned to parent.

We didn't get it perfect
We missed moments. We used the wrong words. We repaired. Being intentional about prayer, bedtime, and what we said after hard moments made a real difference in our family. That is the part we can speak about honestly.

The Father's words gave us a picture
At Jesus' baptism, the Father calls Him beloved before the ministry begins. We do not see that as a parenting trick. It gave us a picture of love spoken before performance and invited us to let our own children hear delight out loud.
